Lehigh Valley, PA – The Philadelphia Flyers, parent club of the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, have signed RW Colin McDonald to a multi-year extension, according to general manager Ron Hextall.
Lehigh Valley’s captain this season, McDonald has recorded 11 goals, 10 assists and 21 points in 33 games with the Phantoms this year entering tonight’s showdown with the Utica Comets at PPL Center. He was named CCM/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending January 31, 2016 after an astounding six goals, four assists, 10 points and plus-five rating in just four games, which included the third hat trick in Lehigh Valley Phantoms history as part of a five-point night in a 6-3 win over the Binghamton Senators on January 27.
A 6’2″, 220-pound winger, McDonald was a second-round selection (51st overall) by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft and has compiled 19 goals, 26 assists and 45 points in 145 career NHL outings during time with the Oilers, Pittsburgh Penguins, New York Islanders and Flyers. He appeared in five games with Philadelphia earlier this season and produced one goal and seven penalty minutes.
With standings points in four straight games (2-0-2) and 10 of their last 14 outings overall, the red-hot Phantoms are in action this evening at PPL Center against the Utica Comets, the AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks.
