Phantoms Forward Colin McDonald Named CCM/AHL Player of the Week

Lehigh Valley’s Captain Notched 6 Goals, 10 Points in Four Games

Lehigh Valley, PA – The Lehigh Valley Phantoms, proud AHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, are pleased to announce that forward Colin McDonald has been selected as the CCM/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending January 31, 2016.

JustSports PhotographyMcDonald erupted for six goals, four assists, 10 points and a plus-five rating last week as Lehigh Valley won all four games during the week extending its season-high winning streak to five consecutive games.

McDonald’s monster week began with a goal and an assist in Monday’s 6-5 shootout triumph at the Hershey Bears. He then produced the third hat trick in Lehigh Valley Phantoms history as part of a massive five-point night in the team’s 6-3 win over the Binghamton Senators at PPL Center. Lehigh Valley’s captain kept his scoring streak alive with an assist in Friday’s come-from-behind 4-3 overtime victory against the rival Penguins before capping his stellar week with a pair of goals in the club’s 5-3 win in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Saturday.

Through 27 games with the Phantoms this season, McDonald has registered nine goals, eight assists and 17 points.

In recognition of his achievement, McDonald will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Phantoms home game.

Following the AHL All-Star break, Lehigh Valley returns to action with road tilts in Bridgeport and Hershey this Friday, February 5 and Saturday, February 6. The Phantoms are then back in action at PPL Center on Wednesday, February 10 when they welcome the rival Binghamton Senators back to downtown Allentown. In the midst of their 20th season of operation, the Phantoms are coming off their Inaugural Season as the Lehigh Valley Phantoms playing at the brand-new PPL Center. Established in 1996, the Phantoms spent their first 13 seasons at the Spectrum in Philadelphia before re-locating to Glens Falls, New York in 2009 where the team spent the next five seasons as the Adirondack Phantoms. A new era of Phantoms hockey began in the fall of 2014 when the Lehigh Valley Phantoms began play at the state-of-the-art PPL Center. Through 19 incredibly successful campaigns, the Phantoms have captured two Calder Cup Championships (1998, 2005), two Conference Championships (1998, 2005), two Regular Season Titles (1996-97, 1997-98) and four Division Championships (1996-97, 1997-98, 1998-99, 2003-04).
