Wisdom Winner in Overtime

Bump Goal Streak at 6, Phantoms Down Laval 5-4

November 4, 2026

Laval, Quebec – This was the response the Phantoms were looking for. Playing with speed, urgency, high compete-level, and determination, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms rallied from behind three times to take an exciting overtime win at the first-place Laval Rocket, 5-4, on Wednesday night in the opener of the team’s three-game Canadian road-swing.

Zayde Wisdom (2nd) blasted home his first career overtime goal while Alex Bump (8th) extended his goal streak to a Lehigh Valley record six games in a row with his power-play crank in the third that gave Lehigh Valley its first lead of the night. Spencer Gill scored from the point in the third period for his first career pro goal while Zach Aston-Reese (2nd) and Noah Powell (2nd) both converted on their chances in the second period pulling the Phantoms to even both times.

BOX SCORE

Carson Bjarnason (25/29) was outstanding with a number of challenging saves. When Laval (8-3-1) pushed back with a 20-shot barrage in the second period, he came through with 19 critical stops.

Lehigh Valley (5-5-1) controlled the bulk of the play in the first period but David Reinbacher (2nd) had the only goal of the frame as his drive from the right point found the back of the net at 4:56 into the contest. But the Phantoms looked strong and held a 10-5 shots advantage in the opening period while Danila Klimovich, Riley Thompson and Zayde Wisdom had some of the team’s top scoring efforts. For Klimovich, the game represented his first night back in the lineup since an injury on October 11. And the sixth-year pro showed zero signs of rust as he generated multiple strong scoring chances.

Helge Grans offered a one-timer from the left circle off a cross-ice feed from Cam Dineen that set up Aston-Reese for a little jab on the handcuffed Mandolese for a 4-on-4 tally at 1:19 into the second period.

The Phantoms kept coming and racked up a 7-1 shots advantage early in the second period when they easily could have taken a 2-1 or 3-1 lead. Mandolese just barely held them off. Laval head coach Daniel Jacobs used his timeout to rally the troops and the Rocket responded with a 19-1 shots advantage for the rest of the period although Lehigh Valley did have some counter-opportunities that missed or were blocked. But it largely became the Carson Bjarnason show for the rest of the period as it was now Laval’s turn to skate downhill with several strong chances.

Laval retook the lead on a steal in the Phantoms end with Laurent Dauphin setting up Filip Mesar for the quick strike at 9:47 to make it 2-1.

But the fourth-liners came to play and went to work and responded just nine seconds later. Garrett Wilson’s aggressive forecheck forced a turnover from Reinbacher that deflected off his leg and right to a completely open Noah Powell who buried the tying goal on the stick-side of Mandolese making it 2-2 at 9:56 of the second period.

Laurent Dauphin found himself open on the right circle with a pass through the slot off a Laval steal and he scored to the far post past the stick of Bjarnason putting the Rocket back in front at 3-2 at 18:37 into the second period.

But Hunter McDonald induced yet another power play, the third time the Rocket had infracted McDonald to put the Phantoms on the man-advantage. Lehigh Valley scored just seconds after the power play had expired at the beginning of the third period on Gill’s needle-threading drive from the left point through traffic and past a screened Mandolese. The first of his pro career for the 20-year-old defenseman tied the game at 3-3 at 1:28 into thte third.

The Phantoms converted on the power play at 7:38 into the third to take their first lead of the game when Alex Bump rocked home a half-slapper from the right dot on a perfect feed from the left corner by Jack Studnicka.

But another poke and steal led to Laval’s final goal of the night at 10:00 into the third with Mesar burying his second of the game to make it 4-4.

Lehigh Valley had some of the better chances in the culminating minutes of regulation but the Rocket held on.

Zayde Wisdom won a faceoff in overtime and then rushed forward before peeling back to set up a more organized rush. Grundstrom carried up the left wing and connected with Wisdom in the high-left slot who drove home the winner past the stick of Mandolese to cap the thrilling evening and Lehigh Valley’s second overtime win of the season.

The road trip continues on Friday night at the Belleville Senators and then concludes on Saturday night at the Hamilton Hammers.

The Phantoms return to PPL Center in just over a week for a pair of games including the team’s Friday the 13th promotion against the Hamilton Hammers followed by Hockey is for Everyone Night on Saturday, November 14th against the Charlotte Checkers.
