Trade: David Goyette from Seattle for Devin Kaplan

Jonathan Gruden Signs

Allentown, PA – The Philadelphia Flyers announced they have acquired forward David Goyette from the Seattle Kraken, in exchange for forward Devin Kaplan. Goyette will report to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, according to General Manager Daniel Briere.

Additionally, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms have signed forward Jonathan Gruden to an AHL contract for the 2026-27 season.

Goyette, 22, was selected by Seattle in the second round (61st overall) of the 2022 NHL Draft. He has appeared in 108 AHL games with the Coachella Valley Firebirds from 2024-26, recording 9-19-28. He also added three assists in 11 Calder Cup Playoff games.

Prior to turning pro, the St-Jerome, Quebec native spent three seasons (2021-24) with the Ontario Hockey League’s Sudbury Wolves, where he totaled 114-168-282 points. During the 2023-24 season, Goyette led the OHL in points scoring 40-77-117.

Kaplan, 22, spent one full season in the AHL with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in 2025-26 and registered 5-8-13 in 49 games. He played three seasons with Boston University (NCAA) from 2022-25, and the forward made his NHL debut with the Flyers following his final collegiate season in 2024-25.

Gruden, 26, is a veteran forward of six seasons in the AHL with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and Utica Comets. Last year with Utica, Gruden recorded 12-14-26 in 67 games. He has played in 335 career AHL games scoring 65-75-140. He also played 16 NHL games with Pittsburgh scoring one goal. He scored a career-high 16-15-31 with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in 2022-23. The Rochester Hills, MI native was also a Round 4 selection of the Ottawa Senators in 2018.

He is the son of John Gruden who is currently an assistant coach with the Toronto Maple Leafs after winning a Calder Cup last year in his third season as head coach of the Toronto Marlies. John Gruden played 92 NHL games with Boston, Ottawa and Washington and also 175 AHL games with Providence and Grand Rapids.
