THE SKINNY:
For some reason, cheese steak eateries like to cluster themselves in Philly. Pat’s has their Geno’s. Dalessandro’s has its Chubby’s. Located a quick sprint across four lanes of traffic from their competition on Henry Ave, Chubby’s came well after Dalessandros. Established since 1987, Chubby's is a casual place with lots of booths. You can also belly up to the lunch counter for a host of chow and even a cold brew. And even though it’s called a lunch counter, you can wander in pretty late for a cheese steak – 2 AM on Friday and Saturday.
Now, on to the steaks.
Dan Reed - Buffalo Chicken Cheesesteak
Rating (out of five):
Summary:
I had the buffalo chicken cheese steak and it was very good. The sauce was nice and tangy, and the bleu cheese dressing really made it good. Lots of chicken on the sandwich. I've gotta’ give it a 4 - a very solid 4. I would most definitely order one again. It was my first buffalo chicken cheese steak, so I didn't have much to compare it to, but I cannot imagine it getting much better. The roll was good, not great, so I guess there could be some improvement in that area... I was happy to be invited along - Thanks and go Phantoms!!
Mike Thornton - American "with"

Summary:
For no reason what-so-ever Chubby’s was our second Henry Avenue stop on our cheese steak tour. Cooked to order with table service, I was pleasantly pleased with the cheese steak. As we talked music and the radio industry with the well-versed Dan Reed, I was able to glean a few differences in the rival steak from across the Avenue. This steak was dressed with sweet onions and American. It did not need any assistance in the taste. My Dalessandro’s from a month back, although very good, was begging for the minced peppers that I ended up utilizing. Although I would dodge oncoming cars for either, Chubby’s was tasty on its own. The bread was Amoroso’s, a popular pocket for steaks in Philly. I give Chubby’s Four Golden Hockey Sticks.
Brian Smith - Mushroom American with, plus onions and ketchup

Summary:
Henry Ave. is a pretty solid place to find a lunch. Like its neighbor across the street, the steak comes out in a basket which easily catches any overflow. The mixture was solid, and although I had to apply my own ketchup, it was easy to mix through. I could have used just a slightly larger sandwich, but it certainly does the trick and is very good in overall quality. Friday, September 14, 2007
