Phantoms To Be Heard In Two Countries On XM Satellite Radio
Games 3, 4 To Be Carried On XM Home Ice 204
PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Phantoms announced today in conjunction with the American Hockey League that Games 3 and 4 of their series with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins will be broadcast throughout the United States and Canada on XM Satellite Radio and XM Canada via their NHL Home Ice 204 channel.
Tonight’s Game 3 and Wednesday’s Game 4, both with the call of Phantoms broadcaster Mike Thornton, will air at 7:00 PM. Tonight’s game should enjoy a particularly wide audience, as there are no other NHL or AHL games being played tonight.
The two games are part of a three-game AHL slate this week on XM. On Tuesday night, XM will carry Game 3 of the North Division Finals between Syracuse and Toronto.
The Phantoms and Penguins come to Philadelphia tied at one game apiece. The Phantoms posted a solid 5-2 victory in Game 1, but Wilkes-Barre/Scranton came from behind in Game 2 to win 5-4 in overtime.
The teams are getting together as their parent clubs, the Philadelphia Flyers and the Pittsburgh Penguins, get set to square off in the NHL’s Eastern Conference Finals on Friday night. Once that series gets underway, it will mark the first time in six years that an AHL playoff series is taking place while the parent clubs of the two teams involved are in an NHL playoff series at the same time. The last time was in 2002, when the New York Islanders and Toronto Maple Leafs were involved in a playoff series at the same time as the Bridgeport Sound Tigers and St. John’s Maple Leafs.
Game 4 of the series will be played at the Wachovia Center on Wednesday night. If necessary, Game 6 will take place on Saturday night, also at the Wachovia Center. All games start at 7:05.
