March 11, 2014

The Philadelphia Flyers have announced that they have recalled forward Chris VandeVelde (Van-duh-Vell-dee) from their AHL affiliate, the Adirondack Phantoms, according to general manager Paul Holmgren. VandeVelde will be available for Philadelphia's upcoming game on Tuesday night against the New Jersey Devils.

VandeVelde began the season on an AHL contract with the Phantoms but was later signed to a one-year NHL contract by the Flyers on December 12. He has played in 17 games for the Flyers this season from December 8 through January 30, recording one assist and averaging 7:57 of time-on-ice. He has been back with the Phantoms since January 31.

The 26-year-old forward out of the University of North Dakota has appeared in 39 games with Adirondack this season scoring nine goals and 14 assists for 23 points. He spent his first three seasons of professional hockey from 2010-13 in the Edmonton Oilers organization appearing in 28 games in the NHL scoring one goal. On his NHL career, VandeVelde has played in a total of 45 games scoring one goal and three assists.

He also played in 192 games for the Oklahoma City Barons scoring 24-36-60. His AHL numbers in 233 career games have seen him score 35 goals and 48 assists for 83 points.

VandeVelde's only career NHL goal came on March 25, 2012 against current Flyers goalie Steve Mason who was with Columbus at the time.

25 Terrific Seasons
Glens Falls is celebrating its 25th season hosting an AHL team and in so doing now joins an elite group of just 9 other active markets who can make such a claim. It's a great hockey tradition with an old-school feel that began with the Adirondack Red Wings in 1979. In their 20-year tenure at the Glens Falls Civic Center through 1999, the Red Wings won four Calder Cups. The Adirondack Phantoms began play in Glens Falls in 2009-10 and are in their fifth season bringing exciting AHL action to the North Country.
