Laughton and McGinn to Phantoms
April 10, 2013

The Philadelphia Flyers have announced that center Scott Laughton has been reassigned to the Adirondack Phantoms, according to general manager Paul Holmgren. It was also announced that Tye McGinn has been assigned from the Flyers to the Phantoms as well.

Scott Laughton, 18 years old, joins Adirondack for the last two weeks of the regular season for his first ever AHL games. The first-round selection (#20 overall) of the Flyers in 2012 spent the majority of this season with the Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League where he scored 23 goals and 33 assists for 56 points in 49 games while recording a plus/minus rating of +22.

He would also tack on another seven goals and six helpers in seven post-season games. Oshawa was eliminated in the second-round of the OHL playoffs thus making Laughton available for the late-season assignment to the Phantoms.

Laughton also cracked the Philadelphia Flyers roster following the team's abbreviated training-camp at the beginning of the NHL season in January. He played in five NHL games scoring zero points and receiving over 11 minutes of ice-time per game before the young prospect was reassigned back to Oshawa.

Laughton's NHL debut was on January 19, 2013 against the Pittsburgh Penguins in the season-opener. His most recent professional game before being sent back to Major Juniors was on January 26 at the Florida Panthers when he received a professional-high 15 minutes of ice-time.

The Oakville, Ontario native is 6'1" and a left-handed shooter. Last April, he won a bronze medal with Team Canada at the World Under-18 Championships played in the Czech Republic.

Tye McGinn returns to the Phantoms again following his latest stint with Philadelphia. His most recent game with Adirondack was on Sunday, March 24 against the Portland Pirates as he scored the fastest goal in Phantoms franchise history lighting the lamp just nine seconds in the game.

That capped an eight-point week for McGinn in which he earned Saratoga Spine Phantoms Player of the Week honors. He scored three goals and five assists in four games from March 19 through March 24 while he was recovering from an eye-injury suffered with Philadelphia on February 25.

Overall this season, McGinn has scored three goals and two assists in 18 games with the Flyers. With Adirondack, he has 14 goals and 12 assists. He trails only Jason Akeson (16) for most goals on the team this year.

The 22-year-old McGinn from Fergus, Ontario is a second-year professional who was selected by the Flyers in the fourth round in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft out of the Gatineau Olympiques of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

His older brother, Jamie McGinn of the Colorado Avalanche, has played in 259 career NHL games. Tye has a younger brother, Brock McGinn, who was a second-round selection of the Carolina Hurricanes last season and is currently playing Major Juniors with the Guelph Storm in the Ontario Hockey League.
