History of Large Crowds in Big Philly Games
February 22, 2013

It has already been announced that tonight’s game in Philadelphia is sold-out. The team is anticipating the possibility that the game can break into the all-time top-attendance list in AHL history.

Seven of the 20 largest regular season crowds have taken place in Philadelphia as well as three of the top nine all-time.

The largest crowd in AHL history came out for a magical night in Philadelphia in the Outdoor Classic at Citizens Bank Park with 45,653 witnessing Shane Harper’s overtime winner against the Hershey Bears.

The largest Phantoms attendance at Wells Fargo Center (formerly Wachovia Center and First Union Center) was June 10, 2005 in the team’s Calder Cup Championship clincher vs. Chicago with a crowd of 20,103. Jon Sim scored two goals in that game for the Phantoms, which was his last game with the Phantoms until joining the Phantoms again last month.
