The Philadelphia Flyers announced that they have
recalled forward Brayden Schenn from the Adirondack
Phantoms and defenseman Kevin Marshall, according
to Flyers General Manager Paul Holmgren. The Phantoms
also announced that they've signed defenseman
Andy Thomas to a PTO.
Marshall, 22, briefly returned to Adirondack after
playing in the second NHL game of his career,
this past Saturday at Madison Square Garden against
the New York Rangers. Marshall made his NHL debut
last Monday in Philadelphia, playing 14:11 against
the Carolina Hurricanes. Marshall has played in
16 games for the Phantoms this season and his
169 games are the most in Adirondack Phantoms
history. The 6-foot-1, 207-pound defenseman was
drafted by the Flyers in the second round (41st
overall) in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, following
four years in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League
split between the Lewiston MAINEiacs and Quebec
Remparts.
Schenn, 20, goes back to the Flyers following
a three-game stint with the Phantoms over Thanksgiving
Weekend. Returning from a foot injury which had
sidelined him for a month, Schenn notched two
goals and two assists over three games with the
Phantoms last week. Schenn has points in all seven
games he's played with Adirondack this year, totaling
six goals and six assists. A former first-round
(5th overall) draft pick of Los Angeles in 2009,
Schenn came to the Flyers organization last summer
as part of the same trade which brough Wayne Simmonds
to Philadelphia, while sending Mike Richards and
Rob Bordson to the Kings.
Thomas, 26, comes to Adirondack for the first
time in his four-year professional career. Thomas
has played in 18 games for the ECHL's Trenton
Titans this season, after playing in a combined
69 games with the Trenton Devils and Albany Devils
last season. A 6-foot-2, 220-pound defenseman
from Bow, New Hampshire, Thomas played four seasons
at the University of Denver and was a fourth-round
draft pick of the Washington Capitals in 2005.
Other Adirondack Phantoms to have made the jump
to the Philadelphia Flyers this season include
Marc-Andre Bourdon, Erik Gustafsson, Zac Rinaldo
and Harry Zolinerczyk. All four of those earlier
call-ups are still with the Flyers.
