The second year of Adirondack Phantoms hockey has come to a close and we are already busy preparing for the 2011-12 season. As always, we thank you for your continued support of the Phantoms. The Phantoms would like to share with you an announcement made by the American Hockey League regarding a schedule modification solution for the
2011-12 season which will benefit players and fans.
The AHL has been working closely with the National Hockey League and with the Professional Hockey Players’ Association to seek a solution to what has become a very onerous playing schedule. As the league has grown and the game has become faster and more physical, the wear and tear on our players from the frequency of games and travel has begun to affect player development and, at times, the quality of competition.
The new plan designed to address these issues will involve all teams playing two fewer home and road games while adding an additional week of play to the regular season. All teams in the AHL will have their schedule adjusted from 80 games to 76. To accommodate the added week in the regular season, the first round of the Calder Cup Playoffs will be adjusted to a Best-of-Five series.
Playing fewer games over an extended period, and eliminating all sequences where the teams have been required to play four games in five days, will reduce travel and game fatigue on players, enhance player safety, and further enhance the quality of play.
Adirondack Phantoms full season ticket packages will now include two first round Calder Cup Playoff games. If the Phantoms do not qualify for the playoffs then full season ticket holders will carry the two game ticket balance over for renewal of their seats during the 2012-2013 season.
All full season ticket holders will be personally notified of the schedule modification but all fans are also welcome to contact the Adirondack Phantoms with questions regarding the change. Please call (518)
480-3355 during regular business hours. We again thank you for your continued support of the Adirondack Phantoms and can't wait for more great hockey games at the Glens Falls Civic Center in October!
