Erik Gustafsson has been named to the 2010-11 AHL
All-Rookie Team as a defenseman. The Northern Michigan
University product has excelled in his first year
of pro hockey and is second among all AHL rookies
in assists with 33. He is also tops among all rookies
in power play assists with 19.
The 23 year old from Kvisselby, Sweden entered
the professional ranks late last year and scored
a point in his first five games with the Phantoms
including two goals to close out 2009-10.
This season with the Adirondack Phantoms he has
played in 65 games (through March 30) scoring 5
goals and 33 assists for 38 points. His point total
is second on the Phantoms trailing Denis Hamel by
two points for the team scoring crown with just
seven games to go.
"Gus" has been called up to the Philadelphia
Flyers three different times this season. He made
his NHL debut on February 26 in a game at Ottawa
against the Senators. He also played in games at
Atlanta on March 17 and at Dallas on March 19.
Each All-Rookie Team member will receive a custom
designed crystal award in recognition of his selection
to the 2010-11 AHL All-Rookie Team.
The selection was made via voting from AHL coaches,
players and media representing the league's 30 cities.
Gustafsson is joined on the All-Rookie squad by
goaltender Eddie Lack of Manitoba, defenseman Brendan
Smith of Grand Rapids, and forwards Luke Adam of
Portland, Zac Dalpe of Charlotte and Rhett Rakhshani
of Bridgeport
Gustafsson is extremely good company. Past members
