Charlotte, NC-Adirondack’s three game win
streak came to a close and the Phantoms had a
difficult time staying out of the penalty box
in a 5-2 loss at the Charlotte Checkers Tuesday
night. Charlotte went 4-for-11 on the power play
including two goals for Zack Boychuk.
The Phantoms got goals from Rob Bordson (7th)
and Mike Testwuide (13th) in the loss. Bordson’s
was his second in the last two games. Testwuide
has scored 12 of his 13 goals since the New Year.
A number of altercations highlighted the game
resulting in game misconducts for Zac Rinaldo
and newcomer Oliver Lauridsen as well as Charlotte’s
Zack Fitzgerald.
Back to back power play goals late in the second
period on both ends of a Tom Sestito double-minor
for roughing helped put the game away for the
Checkers. Adirondack was trailing just 2-1 before
Charlotte would embark on even more man advantages
at the end of the middle frame. Until that point,
the Phantoms had done a commendable job of hanging
in the game despite playing the vast majority
of the second period shorthanded and being outshot
29-9.
The final score was in sharp contrast to recent
games in the series. The previous four contests
between the Phantoms and Checkers were all decided
by one goal.
The game was the beginning of an extremely busy
stretch of games for the Phantoms which sees them
playing six games in eight days in five different
cities.
The game was just the fourth regulation loss
in the last 18 games for the Phantoms since February
5th. Adirondack is 9-4-5 in that stretch. The
Phantoms record on Head Coach Joe Paterson is
18-11-8.
The Phantoms wrap up their three game road trip
Wednesday night with a game at the Norfolk Admirals
at 7:15. Adirondack returns home Friday and Saturday
against with back to back games against the Hershey
