The 23 year-old Holmstrom made his NHL debut
on Thursday night against the Toronto Maple Leafs
logging over 8 minutes of ice-time, half of which
came on the penalty kill. He wore #34.
The Colorado Springs, Colo. native is in his second season with the Phantoms although is still technically a rookie after playing just 13 games with Adirondack at the end of last year following the conclusion of his NCAA career at U-Mass Lowell.
Holmstrom is the only Adirondack Phantom to have played in every game this season having appeared in a team-leading 60 contests. He has 10 goals and 17 assists for 27 points as well as 61 penalty minutes. In his most recent game with the Phantoms last Sunday, he scored the game-winning goal early in the 3rd period breaking a 2-2 tie in an eventual 5-2 victory over the Binghamton Senators.
Other Adirondack Phantoms rookie prospects to have received call-ups to the Philadelphia Flyers include Eric Wellwood and Erik Gustafsson. Gustafsson made his NHL debut on Saturday, February 26 in the Flyers game at Ottawa. Wellwood's debut came on November 6, 2010 when the Flyers were at the New York Islanders. Danny Syvret, Michael Leighton and Matt Walker have also been called up to Philadelphia from the Phantoms at different times.
