Hershey, PA - The Adirondack Phantoms had their
three game point streak snapped in a 5-1 setback
at the Hershey Bears Sunday evening. The loss
concluded a three game weekend of games against
the league's elite in which the Phantoms went
1-1-1. Adirondack is 7-5-3 under Head Coach Joe
Paterson and 9-5-3 since December 17.
Michael Ryan's deflected shot in the 3rd period
fluttered off the edge of Hershey goalie Dany
Sabourin's glove for the team's lone goal on the
night. Ryan has 11 goals this season to move into
second place on the team trailing only Denis Hamel
who has 13. Ryan scored two goals on the weekend
including the game-winner Friday night in Philadelphia
against the Penguins.
Michael Leighton went the distance and took the
loss in net for Adirondack.
The Phantoms had several good chances on Sabourin
including breakaways for Eric Wellwood and Greg
Moore. The Hershey netminder denied both of those
as well as a penalty shot that was awarded to
Moore after his breakaway.
After a scoreless opening period, the Bears would
score three times in the second by Francois Bouchard
(6), Patrick Wellar (3) and Andrew Gordon (20).
Ryan closed the gap to 3-1 early in the 3rd period
to get the Phantoms back into the game but three
minutes later Sheldon Souray (2) would blast a
center-point shot past Leighton to make it 4-1.
Brian Willsie (17) concluded the scoring for the
Bears.
Eric Wellwood and Stefan Legein both left the
game at different points with apparent injuries
and did not return.
Hershey outshot the Phantoms 22-20. Both teams
went 1-for-4 on the power play.
The game was Adirondack's last in "Chocolate-Town"
this season. Hershey returns to the Glens Falls
Civic Center on March 12 and again on March 29.
Notes: Marc-Andre Bourdon, Andrew Rowe and Matt
Clackson were the Phantoms' scratches.
