The Phantoms lost a heartbreaker on Saturday night as Luke Pither who scored his third of the season on a breakaway to start the scoring in the second period and made it rain teddy bears, had a chance to tie the score with 8 seconds remaining but hit the post in his attempt to beat Pirates goaltender Jhonas Enroth, who finished with 28 saves, for the second time stick side. Paul Bryon and Derek Whitmore scored for the Pirates in the third period. For the second night in a row, the Phantoms came within inches of tying the score late to send it to overtime. But the Whale netminder was able to get a cover up on it almost on the goal-line while Eric Wellwood and Holmstrom were furiously trying to poke it in. The Phantoms led the game twice on goals in the second period by Danny Syvret (4th) and Marc-Andre Bourdon (1st) but allowed Kolarik and Williams for the Whale to answer minutes later in both instances.
