The Philadelphia Flyers announced today that they have loaned 5'11", 179-pound
left wing Eric Wellwood back to their American Hockey
League affiliate, the Adirondack Phantoms, according
to general manager Paul Holmgren. Wellwood returns
following his second call-up to the Flyers. In his
first trip to Philadelphia which began November
1, Wellwood played well in three games recording
one assist. But on this trip up that began Sunday
following Adirondack's game last Saturday at Norfolk
Wellwood did not appear in any games.
Wellwood has five goals and three assists for eight
points in 17 games for the Phantoms this season.
The native of Windsor, Ontario was selected by the
Flyers in the sixth round (172nd overall) of the
2009 NHL Entry Draft. Last year, Wellwood helped
lead the Windsor Spitfires of the OHL to a Memorial
Cup Championship with 31 goals and 37 assists. He
is the younger brother of Kyle Wellwood formerly
of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Vancouver Canucks.
The Phantoms are embarking on a stretch of five
consecutive road games beginning Saturday night
at the Hershey Bears at 7 and continuing Sunday
evening at the Connecticut Whale at 5.
Adirondack's next home is Saturday, December 11
against the Portland Pirates featuring the team's
first annual Teddy Bear Toss. Fans get to bring
their teddy bear donations for the Salvation Army
to the game and throw them on the ice after the
Phantoms score their first goal.
