Glens Falls, NY-Danny Syvret scored a pair of goals and Luke Pither
scored his second ever pro goal in his last two
games but Norfolk
was able to rev up their AHL leading offense and
storm from behind
for a 6-3 Black Friday win at the Glens Falls Civic
Center.
Johan Harju led the Admirals with a hat trick in
Norfolk's second and
final appearance of the season in the North Country.
A couple hundred fans received free admission to
the game thanks to
the Phantoms and the Salvation Army courtesy of
their great
coat-donation drive. Special thanks to all the generous
fans who
donated their coats for the needy in the area. The
team also had an
ugly sweater contest with the winner receiving two
tickets to the
upcoming Kenny Rogers concert.
Danny Syvret opened the scoring just 56 seconds
into the game from the
left point. Jonathon Kalinski dropped the puck back
to Syvret whose
slapper deflected off an Admirals defender for the
Phantoms early 1-0
lead. Less than seven minutes later, Syvret scored
his second of the
game on a blast from the same point. This one also
appeared to deflect
in to give Adirondack a 2-0 lead. The crowd of 3585
at the Glens Falls
Civic Center gave the Phantoms a well-deserved rousing
ovation for
their effort as they went off the ice following
the opening period.
It was just Syvret's second game back with the
Phantoms since being
acquired from the Anaheim organization earlier in
the week. Syvret had
played the previous two seasons with the Phantoms
and Flyers including
a 43 assist and 55 point All-Star campaign for John
Paddock with the
Phildelphia Phantoms in 2008-09.
Norfolk cut the Adirondack lead to 2-1 at the 4:27
mark on a feed from
Mike Vernace to Johan Harju.
Adirondack retook a two goal lead on a great play
by Matt Clackson
behind the Admirals net. Clackson took the puck
off of Admiral
goaltender Cedrick Desjardins’ stick and sent
it to the near-side
boards where Luke Pither fired it home to score
his second goal of the
season in the last two games. The Phantoms lead
3-1 when Norfolk would
begin their comeback.
Alex Berry scored his sixth goal of the season
and third against the
Phantoms at the 9:30 mark on a one-timer from the
right-wing. Two
minutes later, Johan Harju scored his second goal
of the game and
eleventh of the season stuffing it home around the
left skate of
Riopel to tie the score at 3-3. Then Tim Marks gave
the Admirals
their first lead of the night at 4-3 stealing the
puck in the Phantoms
zone and blasting home a shot from the slot.
Trailing 4-3, the Phantoms had a pair of power
plays early in the 3rd
period with some good chances to tie the game. Adirondack
would close
on a few occasions but were unable to capitalize
and Norfolk was able
to cling to their one goal advantage.
In the third period, the Admirals added to their
lead. At the 11:00
mark, Johan Harju scored the hat-trick to make it
5-3 and then James
Wright tacked on another with 24 seconds remaining
to defeat the
Phantoms 6-3.
Adirondack outshot Norfolk on the night 28-27.
The Phantoms were
0-for-3 on the power play while the Admirals were
0-for-1. It was the
second consecutive game in which the Phantoms had
limited their
opposition to only one power play.
The Phantoms now embark on a stretch of five consecutive
road games
beginning Saturday night at the Hershey Bears at
7 and continuing
Sunday evening at the Connecticut Whale at 5.
Adirondack's next home is Saturday, December 11
against the Portland
Pirates featuring the team's first annual Teddy
Bear Toss. Fans get to
bring their teddy bear donations for the Salvation
Army to the game
and throw them on the ice after the Phantoms score
their first goal.
