Glens Falls, NY - The Philadelphia Flyers announced today that they have signed 6-1, 188-lb left wing Michael Ryan to a one-year contract, according to general manager Paul Holmgren. He will be assigned to the Adirondack Phantoms.

Ryan, 30 (5-16-80), attended the Flyers’ 2010 training camp on a tryout basis.  The native of Boston, Mass. has appeared in six games this season for the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League, where he recorded a goal and two assists for three points.

A second-round selection (32nd overall) of the Dallas Stars in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, Ryan has appeared in 83 NHL games for the Buffalo Sabres and Carolina Hurricanes.  He has seven goals and eight assists to his credit in his NHL career.

Ryan has also appeared in 259 American Hockey League games in his professional career, including four seasons with the Rochester Americans, two with the Albany River Rats and then this season with Springfield.  In that time, he has scored 82 goals and added 85 assists for 167 points.

Ryan scored two goals and one assist in the 2009 AHL All-Star Classic on the Planet USA side representing the Albany River Rats. In that 2008-09 season he led the River Rats with 25 goals in only 40 games prior to a call-up to the NHL with the Carolina Hurricanes.

Michael’s younger brother, Billy Ryan, played in 15 games with the Philadelphia Phantoms in 2008-09.
