Eric Wellwood Recalled to Philadelphia
The Philadelphia Flyers announced today that they have recalled 5'11", 179-pound left wing Eric Wellwood from their American Hockey League affiliate, the Adirondack Phantoms, according to general manager Paul Holmgren. Wellwood will be available for tonight's game against the Montreal Canadians and will wear No. 47.
Wellwood, 20, will join the Flyers for the second time this season. He was previously recalled on November 1 and made his NHL debut that night against Carolina. He appeared in three games for the Flyers, picking up his first NHL point on an assist on Nov. 6 at the New York Islanders.
The native of Windsor, Ontario was selected by the Flyers in the sixth round (172ndoverall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. Wellwood has five goals and three assists for eight points in 17 games for the Phantoms this season.
Phantoms Re-Acquire Syvret and add Forward Bordson
On Sunday afternoon, the Philadelphia Flyers acquired forward Rob Bordson and defenseman Danny Syvret from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for forwards Patrick Maroon and David Laliberte.
Bordson, 22, in his first year of pro hockey, appeared in 15 games with the Crunch posting a goal and two assists. The University of Minnesota-Duluth product, scored 12 goals and 28 assists for 40 points in 40 games during his final season at UMD.
Syvret, 25, returns to the Flyers organization, where he had played for the past two seasons. Last season with the Phantoms, Syvret had 5 goals and 8 assists in 15 games while spending time additionally in Philadelphia where he compiled 2 goals and 2 assists in 21 games.
Phantoms Make Roster Moves
Friday, the Adirondack Phantoms recalled forward Shane Harper as well as defenseman Cullen Eddy and goaltender Nic Riopel for the second time this week from the Greenville Road Warriors of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL). Additionally, Adirondack sent forward Garrett Klotz and rookie goaltender Brian Stewart on loan to Greenville.
Harper, the Valencia, CA native made his AHL debut last season with the Phantoms on April 2 appearing in five games. He scored his first career AHL goal a week later vs. Binghamton. In his first two games of the season with Adirondack this past week, he tallied two assists.
Eddy, the Mercyhurst College product, appeared in his first career AHL game on Wednesday night in Charlotte where he earned his first AHL point as he assisted on Andrew Rowe's fifth goal of the season.
Riopel, the fifth round draft choice in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft by the Flyers, appeared in ten games last season with the Phantoms with a record of 4-6-0-0 with a 3.35 GAA. This season with Greenville, he won ECHL Goalie of the Week for week of 10/25/10 - 10/31/10 with a 2-0-0 record, 1.50 GAA, and .944 save percentage. Riopel was 6-2-1 with a 2.65 GAA before being recalled to the Phantoms.
Klotz, the third round draft pick of the Flyers back in 2007, accumulated ten penalty minutes in ten games with the Phantoms this season while rookie goaltender Brian Stewart was 0-4-0 with a 4.73 GAA.

Phantoms Return Home for Two Games; Then Hit the Road for the start of 5 Straight

1st Place in North Division, Western Conference
This will be the first of four meetings between the Phantoms and Bulldogs this season. Last season, Hamilton won the season series 4-0 but the March 17 game at the Glens Falls Civic Center, the Phantoms lost 6-5 in the seventh round of a shootout. This season, the Bulldogs are 3-1-0-3 on the road and are 7-2-0-1 in their last ten games. Max Pacioretty leads Hamilton in goals (8) while David Desharnias leads the team in assists (16) and total points (22). Curtis Sanford, the ex-NHL'er, is 6-1-0-0 with a 1.56 GAA and is 2nd in the league in goals allowed with 11 only behind Jake Allen of Peoria who has let in nine. On special teams, Hamilton has the second best power play on the road converting 24.3 % while their penalty killing ranks 7th among the AHL (88.1%).

3rd Place in East Division, Eastern Conference
This will be the third time in 3 weeks that the Phantoms have met the Admirals. On Nov. 12, Adirondack snapped their 11-game winless streak in comeback fashion 4-3 in overtime on two Denis Hamel power play goals. Norfolk has seen a lot of player activity in the past couple weeks as well. Forwards Marc-Antoine Pouliot, Johan Harju, Blair Jones, James Wright and Juraj Simek along with defenseman Mike Vernace have all seen action in Tampa Bay this season. Currently, Paul Szczechura leads the Admirals in goals (8) while Marc Antoine Pouliot leads the team in assists (15) and total points (19). Norfolk is 4-2-3-1 in their last ten games and finished the past week 2-0-0-0. Cedrick Desjardins and Dustin Tokarski have both seen playing time against the Phantoms this season.

This is the third of eight meetings between the Phantoms and Bears with this being the third time the Phantoms have made a trip to Hershey. The Phantoms have been outscored by the Bears 9-3 in two games while both Johan Backlund and Brian Stewart, who recently was loaned to Greenville, each played one game against the defending Calder Cup Champions. Hershey leads the league in both goals scored with 69 (that is 3.83 goals a game) and shots for with 624 (that is 34.67 a game). Andrew Gordon leads the Bears in goals (10) and total points (25) while forward Mathieu Perrault and defenseman Lawrence Nycholat are tied on the team in assists (14). Goaltender Semyon Varlomov is 2-1 with a 3.36 GAA while Dany Sabourin is 3-6 with a 2.85 GAA with both net minders having seen time this season with the Washington Capitals.

This will be the first of four meetings between the Phantoms and Pack. This will be the opening weekend for the Connecticut Whale after the name change from the Hartford Wolf Pack. Right winger Jeremy Williams leads the team in goals (11) and total points (19) in 21 games this season while goaltender Chad Johnson has seen the majority of the time in goal with a record of 5-10-1-0 and a 2.70 GAA. On special teams at home, the Wolf Pack are ranked 18th on the power play converting 17.1 % while their penalty kill is 22nd among the American Hockey League stopping opponents 80.0% of the time on the man advantage. Hartford is currently 3-6-0-1 in their last ten games and are coming off a 2-2-0-0 week.

November 17, 2010 - Adirondack 1 @ Charlotte 2
Andrew Rowe gave Adirondack the initial lead midway through the first period when he pounced on a rebound from a shot by Cullen Eddy. It was Rowe's fifth goal of the season and placed him 2nd among Phantoms in goals behind Denis Hamel who has six. It was Eddy's first career AHL point. Nic Riopel made 24 saves, which was good enough for Second Star of the Game honors while counterpart Justin Pogge stopped 23 Adirondack shots for his fifth win of the season.
November 19, 2010 - Adirondack 3 @ Charlotte 4 OT
The Adirondack Phantoms overcame deficits of 2-0 and 3-2 at the Charlotte Checkers Friday night but eventually fell in overtime by a 4-3 final as Bobby Sanguinetti's game-winner just trickled through Johan Backlund. Johan Backlund was stellar in net for the Phantoms making 33 saves while Checkers goaltender Mike Murphy earned his second win of the season against the Phantoms stopping 38 shots. Matt Clackson scored his first goal of the season while Eric Wellwood netted his fifth and Ben Holmstrom helped tie the game in the 3rd period scoring his fourth of the year. Shane Harper earned two assists in his first AHL game of the season. On special teams, Charlotte went 2-for-4 on the power play while Adirondack went 0-for-3.
November 20, 2010 - Adirondack 1 @ Norfolk 3
The Adirondack Phantoms wrapped up their three game road-trip with a 3-1 loss to the Norfolk Admirals Saturday night at Norfolk Scope Arena. David Laliberte, a Phantom at the time, gave Adirondack an early 1-0 lead on the power play in the first period with assists to Eric Wellwood and Denis Hamel. In the third period, Hamel had a chance to cut the Norfolk lead from 3-1 to 3-2 when he was rewarded a penalty shot. Dustin Tokarski, who made 21 saves on the night, stopped Hamel and the Phantoms the rest of the way earning his third win of the season.

Last season with the Phantoms, Harper made his pro debut on April 4, 2010 vs. Syracuse and scored first pro goal on April 9 vs. Binghamton. In 11 games this season with the Road Warriors, Harper compiled three goals and seven assists and was a +5.
