Wellwood Recalled to Philadelphia Flyers

Rookie makes second trip to NHL this season

Glens Falls, NY - The Philadelphia Flyers announced today that they have recalled 5'11", 179-pound left wing Eric Wellwood from their American Hockey League affiliate, the Adirondack Phantoms, according to general manager Paul Holmgren.  Wellwood will be available for tonight's game against the Montreal Canadiens and will wear No. 47.

Wellwood, 20 (3-6-1990), will join the Flyers for the second time this season.  He was previously recalled on November 1 and made his NHL debut that night against Carolina.  He appeared in three games for the Flyers, picking up his first NHL point on an assist on Nov. 6 at the New York Islanders.

Wellwood has five goals and three assists for eight points in 17 games for the Phantoms this season.  The native of Windsor, Ontario was selected by the Flyers in the sixth round (172nd overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. Last year, Wellwood helped lead the Windsor Spitfires of the OHL to a Memorial Cup Championship with 31 goals and 37 assists. He is the younger brother of Kyle Wellwood formerly of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Vancouver Canucks.

 Adirondack returns home on Wednesday, November 24 to face-off against the Hamilton Bulldogs at 7 p.m. on Check it Out Night with great discounts available for fans showing their library card when they purchase tickets.  It is also Blades for Grades Night at the Glens Falls Civic Center. Call the Phantoms office for more information. The Thanksgiving homestand concludes on Friday, November 26 against the Norfolk Admirals.

The homestand begins a stretch of four games in five days for the Phantoms. Adirondack opens a stretch of five straight away games next Saturday at Hershey and Sunday at Hartford.
