Wellwood expected to dress in tonight's Flyers game vs. Carolina Hurricanes

November 1, 2010

GLENS FALLS, NY - Rookie winger Eric Wellwood is being rewarded for his hard work with a call up to the Philadelphia Flyers. The 20 year old native of Windsor, Ontario is expected to make his NHL debut Monday night against the Carolina Hurricanes. The Flyers also announced that defenseman Oskars Bartulis will return to the NHL club following his conditioning assignment with the Phantoms in which he played four games recording one assist.

Wellwood is a product of the Windsor Spitfires and is coming off back-to-back Memorial Cup championships with the team. In his pro career with the Phantoms he has scored 3 goals and 1 assist in 11 games. His first goal as a pro was the game winner in the Phantoms’ come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Syracuse on October 15 in the team’s home opener.

The Flyers 6th round pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft had 31 goals and 68 points last year for the Spitfires last year where he was teammates with 2010 #1 draft pick Taylor Hall of the Edmonton Oilers. Wellwood had a four goal game for the Spitfires at Sioux Ste. Marie on October 30, 2009.

He played in two games with the Flyers this preseason recording one assist.

Wellwood is the younger brother of NHL’er Kyle Wellwood who has played 338 NHL games with Toronto and Vancouver scoring 63 goals and 97 assists.
