GLENS FALLS, NY - The Adirondack Phantoms have announced they have signed veteran winger Denis Hamel to a Professional Tryout (PTO) according to Head Coach Greg Gilbert. The three-time AHL All-Star and 2008 AHL Man of the Year has scored 290 goals in 790 AHL games in 10 seasons with the Binghamton Senators and Rochester Americans.

Hamel has 192 games of NHL experience scoring 19 goals with Buffalo, Ottawa, Atlanta and Philadelphia.

The 33 year old left-handed shooter from Lachute, Quebec holds the Binghamton Senators record for goals in a season when he scored 56 in 2005-06 to tie for the AHL lead with Grand Rapids’ Donald MacLean. Hamel also holds the B-Sens records for goals and points in a career with 124 and 236 respectively. Hamel was the captain of the Binghamton Senators last year and also captained the Canadian squad at the 2008 AHL All-Star Classic in Binghamton.

Interestingly, Hamel’s second game with the Phantoms is scheduled to take place at Binghamton against his former team on Saturday, November 6th.

Flyers Assistant General Manager John Paddock was Hamel's head coach while leading the Binghamton Senators in 2003-04 and was with him again as an assistant coach with the Ottawa Senators in 06-07.

In 2008 Hamel was awarded the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award as the AHL’s Man of the Year for his commitment to the community, youth groups and charitable organizations including funding for breast cancer research and facilities.

A sixth round pick of the St. Louis Blues in 1995, Hamel starred for the Chicoutimi Sagueneens of the QMJHL scoring 40 goals and 89 points in 1995-96 and 50 goals and 100 points in 1996-97.

Adirondack's next home games are Thursday, November 11 through Saturday, November 13 against Toronto, Norfolk and Abbotsford in back-to-back games. The November 11th game is Faith and Family Night with the Phantoms. The Saturday, November 13th game will feature Phantoms Mini-Sticks for the first 1,000 kids (age 14 and younger) courtesy of Hometown Chevrolet and also the 2nd Annual 9/11 Memorial Guns and Hoses game with local public safety representatives taking on the NYPD hockey team at 3pm.
