Glens Falls, NY- The
Adirondack Phantoms lit it up for three power play
goals including two from rookie Andrew Rowe but
were unable to hold the lead as the Rochester Americans
came from behind for a 5-3 victory Saturday night
at Glens Falls Civic Center.
The Phantoms went a season high 3-for-9 on the
man advantage and outshot the Amerks 34-26 on the
night in an exciting contest that included several
terrific saves by Johan Backlund.
Rowe led the way with his 3rd and 4th career lamplighters
in the first period. The Michigan State product
had 17 goals and 28 points for the Spartans last
year.
Jon Kalinski gave the Phantoms their first lead
of the night at 3-2 in the 2nd period with his 3rd
goal of the season. He also had a pair of assists
on Rowe's tallies. Stefan Legein had a fine game
and contributed a pair of assists as well.
Colby Robak scored late in the 2nd period to tie
the game and then pushed across the game-winner
in the 3rd for the Amerks.
Bill Thomas, formerly of the Pittsburgh Penguins
and Phoenix Coyotes , scored in the opening and
closing minutes of the game including an empty netter
with 27 seconds remaining to seal the Amerks victory.
Thomas started the scoring 38 seconds into the
game with an unassisted tally up the right-wing
beating Backlund on the short side but the lead
would not even last for two minutes as Andrew Rowe
chipped in a feed from behind the cage by a hustling
Legein nicely digging away a deflection of a Kalinski
slapper.
Legein and Kalinski would again team up to find
Rowe to make it 2-2 later in the period.
In the 2nd period it was Jon Kalinski picking up
the rebound of a Marc-Andre Bourdon slapshot from
the point that bounced out of the glove of Rochester
goalie Jacob Markstrom.
The game featured a battle of Swedish goalies in
Backlund and Markstrom. It also featured brothers
Matt and Chris Clackson going against each other
for the second time this year. Both played at Western
Michigan University. Chris joined his older brother
Matt on the Phantoms for a pair of games late last
season before signing with the Florida Panthers
organization and Rochester this year.
It was a big Halloween Party at the Glens Falls
Civic Center featuring Phantoms Silly Bands for
the kids courtesy of Saratoga Spine and a post-game
skate with the Phantoms players presented by Glens
Falls Hospital.
The Phantoms have almost a full week between games
before getting back into action next weekend. Friday
night Adirondack will travel to Portland, Maine
to tangle with the Atlantic Division front-running
Pirates. Saturday night the Phantoms will play at
the Binghamton Senators.
Adirondack's next home games are Thursday, November
11 through Saturday, November 13 against Toronto,
Norfolk and Abbotsford in back-to-back games. The
Saturday, November 13th game will feature Phantoms
Mini-Sticks for the first 1,000 kids in attendance
courtesy of Hometown Chevrolet and also the 2nd
annual 9/11 Memorial Guns and Hoses game with local
representatives taking on the NYPD team at 3pm.
