GLENS FALLS, NY – The buzz is in the air as training camp officially opened and the Adirondack Phantoms hit the ice for the first time at the Glens Falls Civic Center Wednesday morning in day 1 of their preseason. It was the area fans’ first chance to look at the new and returning players and their first taste of actual hockey in Glens Falls leading to an exciting upcoming season.

Check out today’s video blog where we talk with Matt Clackson about the team’s day on the ice!

Head Coach Greg Gilbert has almost 40 players in camp including 19 non-roster tryout invitees so the practice was separated into two groups. The first group was the regular Phantoms team including familiar faces and popular players like Matt Clackson, Patrick Maroon, Logan Stephenson and Stefan Legein as well as newcomers such as Andrew Rowe, Tye McGinn, Greg Moore and Dan Jancevski.

Goalie Brian Stewart had the hardest workout of all as he got to pull double duty and practice in both sessions because there is only one goalie in the non-roster tryout group.

Many of the players had not hit the ice for a day or two as they were transitioning for the Flyers training camp in Voorhees, NJ so Gilbert and Assistant Coach Riley Cote made sure to put them to work with a good hard session.

Gilbert said he likes the group he has, “We’ve got a lot of guys who have been signed as free agents coming out of college and juniors. They’re young. They’re excited. They’re passionate about the game and they want to learn. I think the energy level is going to be outstanding.”

Training-camp continues Thursday morning at 10:00 a.m. again to be broken up into two sessions.
