GLENS FALLS, NY – Day 1 of Flyers Rookie Camp in Voorhees, NJ is in the books featuring several players expected to be on this year's Phantoms team.

It's not a new scene for many of the rookies who also skated at the official Flyers training complex in the summer for conditioning camp. Some of those guys even decided to stay in New Jersey this whole time between camps getting even more training on their own.

"(We) moved out here right after conditioning camp and stayed here ever since training with some of the guys who stay here in the summer," Flyers prospect Mike Testwuide out of Colorado College explained. "It's been really challenging but we all committed to be here and it's been a lot of fun."

Among Testwuide's roommates who may be on the Phantoms this year or possibly get a chance to stick with the Flyers were Ben Holmstrom, Andrew Rowe and Eric Wellwood.

Holmstrom played in 13 games and scored 3 goals with the Phantoms last season after an NCAA career at U-Mass Lowell. Rowe comes to the Flyers organization from Michigan State. Wellwood arrives from the Ontario Hockey League champion Windsor Spitfires.

As the conditioning continues for the young talents the focus turns to the X's and O's. "We're learning things we can implement into the game with the Flyers with their systems and how they play and what they expect of us a little bit more than just conditioning like we did back in July," Testwuide said.

All of this work reinforces the idea for Testwuide that hockey really is starting again. "It was a great workout. I'm definitely feeling ready to go and all the guys are feeling ready to go right now."

The Flyers rookie camp will conclude with a game between the Flyers rookies against the Capitals rookies at 3pm on Thursday, September 16 in Arlington, Virginia. Then it's back to Voorhees, NJ for the official beginning of Flyers camp on Friday, September 17 with all the players joining the rookies.

Many of the future Phantoms players will be getting some ice-time in the Flyers busy schedule of preseason games beginning Tuesday, September 21 against the New Jersey Devils.

The players who are assigned to Greg Gilbert's Phantoms squad will begin arriving to Glens Falls on September 27. The Phantoms will play a three game preseason beginning Friday, October 1 at the Glens Falls Civic Center vs. the Albany Devils. Individual tickets are on sale now for $10 for adults and just $5 for kids. The Phantoms' Home Opening Weekend for the regular season is Friday, October 15 and Saturday October 16 with back to back East Division rivalry games against Syracuse and Albany.
