| GLENS FALLS, NY – Jeremy Duchesne made
his first start of the season and turned in a sharp
performance for the Adirondack Phantoms, but Brandon
Svendson scored the game’s only goal as the
Binghamton Senators took the contest 1-0 Saturday
night at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
With the departure of goaltender John Grahame signing
with the Colorado Avalanche earlier this week, the
Phantoms recalled goaltender Jeremy Duchesne from
the Kalamazoo Wings. The Silver Springs, Maryland
native had only played in two career AHL games during
the 2007-08 season, and was making his Adirondack
debut as the Phantoms squared off with the Senators.
After a scoreless first period, where both Duchesne
and Senators goalie Chris Holt played well, Binghamton
got on the board off a transition attack. Kaspars
Daugavins passed the puck to Brandon Svendsen at
the B-Sens blue line off a turnover and Svendsen
sped off on a two-on-one rush, electing to shoot
and beating Duchesne to the far side under his catching
glove at 5:12 to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. The
Phantoms goalie stopped everything else sent his
way in the period, including a stretch where Adirondack
took four straight minor penalties.
Duchesne’s best save came in the third period
when he thwarted Erik Condra’s clean breakaway
to keep the game close. The Phantoms pulled their
goalie for a sixth attacker with 1:16 left in the
game and then got a power play to make it six-on-four.
However, Holt and the Senators toughed out the penalty,
hanging on for a 1-0 shutout win.
Chris Holt stopped all 25 shots that he faced to
record his fourth shutout of the season, helping
Binghamton improve to 25-30-4-3. Jeremy Duchesne
was superb in just his third career AHL appearance,
stopping 23-of-24 shots as Adirondack dropped to
28-31-2-2. The Phantoms out-shot the Senators 25-24
and went 0-for-4 on the power play; Binghamton was
0-for-5 with the man-advantage.
Adirondack will hit the road for a Sunday, March
7th 5:00 pm face off with the Hershey Bears at the
Giant Center. The Phantoms next home game is on
Friday, March 12th at 7:30 pm against Hershey, beginning
